I have post nasal drip that results in a cough, sometimes productive, and sometimes very unproductive. Can you help me with some remedies?

Firstly try to remove all the mucus on regular basis that is formed at the back of your throat. Follow these simple home remedies for coughing:

  • Add 1/2 teaspoon salt in a cup of water. Draw this water in an aspirator and flush your nose with this water by putting the aspirator in the nostril.
  • Salt water gargles also help to deal with post nasal drip; however make sure that the water reaches at the back of your throat.
  • Mix 1tsp fresh ginger juice, and 1 tsp fresh holy basil juice in honey. Lick this paste 3-4 times a day to get rid of cough.
  • When you are at work include lots of fluids in your day. Emphasize on ginger tea, coffee, hot soups, chicken broths, vegetable soups and broths. This will make you feel better.
  • Avoid too oily foods, junk foods, cold foods, carbonated beverages, spicy foods, hot peppers, green peppers and chilies in the diet as they may further aggravate your cold, cough and post nasal drip.
  • Minimize your milk consumption for some time till you feel better. The lactose in milk often acts as food for the molds and bacteria in the throat which can increase their population and weaken your immune system.
