Health benefits of aloe vera

Aloe Vera or Aloe Barbadensis used to be thought of as cooling agent with applications for sunburn. Now we know that Aloe Vera helps with a whole host of health conditions and is an amazing mix of nutrients. It is the only known plant source that contains Vitamin B12.

It is a cellular regenerator with antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral and energy boosting properties.Aloe vera finds use in all the following conditions:

  • Colitis
  • Ulcers
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Constipation
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Cancer
  • Kidney disease
  • Irritations and inflammations in the digestive tract
  • Tumours
  • Leg cramps
  • Insomnia
  • Vaginitis
  • Viral attacks
  • Immune system problems
  • White Blood Cell production
  • Arthiritis

The list is almost endless. It also has several applications in beauty, being a natural moisturizer and sunscreen.

There is no one ingredient because of which Aloe Vera is as potent a healing agent as it is. There are 15 different compounds that make it so effective. Daily new applications for Aloe Vera in medicine are discovered.

If you have an Aloe plant at home and want to know how to make use of it, this is a simple process to extract its juice.Cut off a leaf from the base of the plant. Stand it upright in a container for about ten minutes until the juice drains out. This is the sap. Keep it aside. Cut off the tip and sides of the leaf with a sharp knife and separate the front and back of the leaf. Then using a spoon scrape out the insides of the leaf. You will get a mucilage and a gel like substance. Mix up the sap and the second extract. This is good for external use, but not for taking internally. You can store your aloe juice in the refrigerator.
