Aloe Vera – An Excellent Skin Moisturizing Agent

by Sharon Hopkins
Aloe vera is one of the best natural products available for all sorts of skin related issues. Aloe vera can be used quite easily and effectively to maintain healthy skin in all its forms. If you have an aloe plant at home, this is one of the best ways to use aloe vera.

All that needs to be done is to split open a leaf and use the pulp. It is always advisable to do this in the evenings, when there will be no subsequent exposure of the skin to direct sunlight. The reason for this is that if there is direct exposure to the sun, the skin where the aloe is will tend to darken.

Aloe vera based creams and gels are excellent natural moisturizers. It is important that the product contain at least about 30 per cent of natural aloe for it to have the desired effect on the skin. It would be advisable to keep this in mind while purchasing any brand. Aloe extracts are also available for general use and daily skin care, though these may turn out to be a bit expensive when compared to the creams and lotions. The reason for this is that extracts are more concentrated in nature, while creams and lotions contain only a small amount of aloe along with several other ingredients.

Aloe vera is sometimes used for the purpose of lightening the skin by a few shades and evening it out in texture and tone. In fact, it is a highly recommended product for this purpose. Aloe vera can also be used for helping to remove stretch marks. Aloe vera is also useful for the purpose of healing small cuts and nicks that may come about as a result of shaving, or even general bruises and scrapes. It has the soothing and cooling nature of water that helps to soothe the skin beautifully. The best part about this product is that it can also be used on very small children, since it is extremely benign in nature. However, as with many natural products, science is still in the process of finding out exactly what the active ingredients are and how they work. There is a possibility that aloe can have unpleasant effects too, although this is quite rare. In order to make the best use of aloe vera for skin, it is therefore better to use it under the guidance of a knowledgeable medical professional.
