What can I use for an eye wash?

You have not mentioned why you think you need an eye wash. Are you suffering from some sort of eye infection, is there a foreign object in your eye, are you experiencing pain or problems with your vision, or is it simply a case of eye strain? Normally, the eyes function fine without any special eye wash solutions. Washing them now and then with plain water is adequate. Even if your eyes feel strained, splashing them with cool water and allowing them to rest is enough to get them back to normal. If you feel it is necessary, you can apply a warm or cold compress to your eyes at night before going to bed. Placing slices of potato or cucumber on your eyes may also help.

If you really feel you need an eye wash, the best and safest one is plain rose water. Avoid using other home remedies such as comfrey, castor oil, and other oils, as they can sometimes irritate the eyes and even aggravate the problem. In fact, if you have an eye infection or are having trouble seeing, or even if there is a foreign object irritating your eye, you should visit a doctor immediately. Eye problems can become serious without warning and it is best not to take any risks.
