Making Hair Soft and Silky

by Kevin Pederson

The texture of hair is influenced by various factors like exposure to direct sunlight and pollution, stress, hormonal changes, eating habits, illness and medication. Rough hair is usually the result of neglect, overuse of hair care products and repeated harsh hair treatments that leave the hair damaged and dry. Rough hair tends to look unsophisticated, affecting the overall appearance of the individual.

Nevertheless, there are numerous easy to follow remedies that can improve the overall texture of hair leaving you looking gorgeous. These remedies are effective only if followed on a regular basis.

Keeping your hair healthy and nourished is the secret to beautiful, silky hair.

If you have dry, rough hair, washing your hair daily should be avoided as this further strips the hair of natural oils. Choosing your hair care products carefully is recommended as these products play a vital role in the quality of hair. It is advisable to use a mild shampoo and conditioner instead of products that have high chemical content as they often cause more damage to the hair. Hair should be dried naturally before combing with a wide tooth comb, to reduce breakage as hair is the most vulnerable when it is wet. Applying hair serum to damp hair will assist in detangling, straightening the hair naturally while giving it a healthy shine. Blow drying should be avoided as it weakens the hair further. Perming, straightening, coloring and other hair treatments should also be avoided as they make the hair dull and lifeless. The use of a scarf to cover your head is recommended to prevent damage caused by prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and pollution.

Immediately after a bath, massaging your scalp gently for a few minutes will restore the natural oil that is lost during the washing process. Regular oil massages will provide additional nourishment while ensuring a steady flow of natural oil to the hair follicles and improving blood circulation in the scalp. Heating almond oil, olive oil and castor oil in equal proportions and massaging the scalp with this mixture is an excellent treatment for rough hair. Coconut oil is also recommended for making hair soft and silky. A hot, moist towel used to cover the hair after an oil massage will ensure that the oil penetrates and stimulates the hair follicles thus improving the hair texture. Milk is an excellent natural conditioner. Massaging your scalp with fresh milk and washing it off with a mild shampoo will leave your hair straight and beautiful.
