Clogged Ear Remedies

by Kevin Pederson
While the human ears are primarily concerned with hearing, they also play a significant role in helping the body maintain balance as well as aid in judgment of the brain to calculate the proximity of certain objects and people.  While it is unlikely to have any serious medical problems to develop from the occurrence, clogged ears can be quite irritating and be accompanied by a significant amount of discomfort. In most cases, the blockage is the result of a buildup of earwax that is created within the ear to trap any bacteria that has the potential to enter the body through the ear canal.

Some of the other symptoms that an individual is likely to experience when suffering from clogged ears include a rather heavy head, the possibility of development of respiratory infections as well as allergic reactions.

One of the best and most widely used methods of unclogging the ears is the use of hydrogen peroxide. The procedure is very simple and all that is required is for the patient to lie on his or her side and introduce a few drops of the solution into the ear canal with the help of a dropper.

Allow the substance to melt the solidified wax that has built up within the ear for about 5 to 10 minutes. During this period, the patient is likely to hear a few pops and clicks while the chemical reacts with the wax and loosens it. Once the clicking has stopped, roll your head over to the other side and allow the contents of the ear to drain out. If you were to glance at the discharge, you are likely to see a number of impurities also accompany the molten ear wax. However, keep in mind the fact that hydrogen peroxide is widely considered to be a rather harsh chemical, so consulting your doctor before actually going ahead with the procedure is highly recommended. Under normal circumstances, the ear wax is naturally expelled from the ear during times like having a bath because the wax is generally very soft at this time, allowing it to be cleaned easily. If you would prefer to use a much milder form of wax softener, you could try using some lukewarm olive oil as a substitute as it has roughly the very same effect on ear wax. The simple application of a hot pad being placed over the ear is also another effective way of unblocking ear and will almost immediately relieve any discomfort that you were experiencing.
