Paresthesia Treatment

by Kevin Pederson
Paresthesia is more commonly known as the pins and needles sensation. This is usually a type of neuropathy, which is felt by people who could be suffering from a vast number of underlying conditions. For instance, diabetes is a common root cause for paresthesia.

Paresthesia is a neurological side effect of some other disease as opposed to being a disease or a problem by itself. However, something as simple as part of the anatomy going to “sleep” or becoming temporarily numb cannot be classified as paresthesia. In order to be positively diagnosed for this condition, you would have to undergo a series of medical tests and examinations.

Only after there is a definite identifiable cause can this be considered to be a problem. Most of the time, it is a problem with pinched or pressed nerves. The only rest or cure for this kind of a thing can be complete and absolute rest. There can be no repetition of the act of pressing or pinching a nerve. Sometimes, a repetitive action such as keeping a wallet in the back pocket, buttoning up pants or other forms of clothing too tightly and so on can also lead to a nerve becoming damaged at the precise point where it is constantly pressed or pinched. Watch out for these things and simply reverse the action so as to control the damage.

Apart from this, you should be seeking help for this problem if it is a side effect of something like diabetes or other neurological disorders. It is always a good thing to know that neurological disorders can be degenerative and if help is not sought in a timely fashion, they may degenerate into becoming further problems. Diseases such as Alzheimer’s, alcoholism, some types of deficiencies and poisoning, Parkinson’s and so on can all be responsible for bringing about a case of paresthesia. This will be considered chronic if it advances in nature and last for a particular period of time. It is significant to know that this definition cannot be arrived at by mere speculation. You would have to consult with your regular doctor, and possibly a battery of specialists too before you can come to any conclusion. Furthermore, tests will have to be taken in order to determine this condition. It is not only unwise to try and treat a neurological disorder at home, it is also not a safe thing to do. Neglect may degenerate this condition.
