Symptoms of Rectal Cancer


Signs and symptoms of rectal cancer appear only in the later stages. The symptoms vary depending on the location of the tumor. They include:

  • Changes in Bowel Movements: These changes can include anything from diarrhea to constipation. These usually occur due to obstruction of the bowel by the tumor.
  • Abdominal bloating and cramps.
  • Dark patches of blood in or on the stool.
  • Long thin ‘pencil’ stools.
  • Chronic unexplained fatigue.
  • Loss of appetite with attendant weight loss.
  • Pain in the Pelvic Region: These symptoms usually occurs in the later stages.
