There are several reasons, which can cause osteoarthritis such as heredity, deficiency, infections, physical damage to the joint, etc. the treatment for osteoarthritis is very complicated and requires a lot of time. In addition, in some of the cases, the treatment is not possible at all and replacing the affected joints is the only option available to the patient. Therefore, osteoarthritis prevention is very important.

The osteoarthritis occurring due to heredity cannot be prevented. However, preventive measures can be taken in order to control the other factors responsible for osteoarthritis. The osteoarthritis prevention with the control of these factors is given below.

Deficiency of the essential nutrients is one of the reason due to which osteoarthritis can occur. The essential nutrients are vitamin D, calcium, phosphorus, selenium, bone protein, etc. They are the constituent materials of bones, cartilages and synovial fluid, which is present in the joints. Preventing such, a deficiency will lead to osteoarthritis prevention.

Especially in the old age, the bones start losing these materials. Therefore, the older people generally face the deficiency of these materials. Because of this, it is advisable to the old people that they should take additional supplements of these nutrients for osteoarthritis prevention.

Another thing can be done for the osteoarthritis prevention is regular exercise. Regular exercise will keep all the joints healthy and therefore not much problems will arise with them. The exercises need not be too heavy as used the ones for muscle building. However, they should be such that they provide movement to all the joints in the body.

Moreover, allergies and infections also are among the common causes of osteoarthritis. If they arise in the surrounding regions of the joints then they may also affect the joints as well leading to osteoarthritis. Therefore, if any allergies or infections occur to the joints they should be treated as early as possible.

Osteoarthritis may also arise due to some physical damage to the joints. Therefore, for osteoarthritis prevention will also include protecting them from any physical damage. In any case, the joints are very sensitive parts of the body and therefore they should be protected from such damage.

The above-mentioned are the preventive measures for the joints. In addition to all this, the people especially the old people should be constantly aware and detect osteoarthritis in the very early stages when it can be controlled. This will avoid the further complications and problems, which can arise due to osteoarthritis.
