Hyperacidity: Home Remedies and Causes

Hyperacidity is a rather common condition that affects almost one quarter of the entire population of the United States of America over the course of every single year. The condition arises when an excessive amount of hydrochloric acid is dispensed in the stomach. The condition can be caused by a number of other medical ailments such as the presence of peptic ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease as well as cancer. The primary symptom that one normally experiences when affected by hyperacidity is a sharp pain around the waist. However, since this symptom is rather common when it comes to a number of stomach infections or problems, the condition is very often misdiagnosed. Symptoms such as sour belching and the presence of an after taste after food has already been eaten are better indicators of hyperacidity. An affected individual may also experience other symptoms such as stiffness of the stomach, indigestion, a feeling of nausea or vomiting, constipation and a significant amount of restlessness.

Since the condition is almost always controlled by the kind of food and the quantity of it you consume, your diet plays a significant role in its treatment. First and foremost, you must make it a point to avoid having any heavy meals. Instead of having 3 large meals over the course of the day, eat about 6 smaller meals instead. After having a meal, burn a few calories by going on a brisk walk and keep your mind free of any additional worry or stress.

Avoid any foods that are sour as they contain a certain amount of acid. Fruits that are known to help with the treatment of hyperacidity include watermelon, banana and apple. Avoid eating any hot, spicy or even fried foods while also drinking plenty of water over the course of the day. Never go to bed immediately after your meal but stay seated upright for at least an hour before you retire for the night.
