Herbal Remedies for Insomnia

Insomnia herbal remedies are the best form of treatment for insomnia as most conventional treatments and therapies for the disorder have serious side effects. Insomnia, as most of us know, is a sleeping disorder in which the affected person is unable to sleep and when sleeping suffers from restlessness and frequent disruptions. The most frequently seen type of insomnia is known as secondary insomnia. This means that it is a cause of some other disease or condition such as consumption of alcohol/ caffeine, strong medicines, heart or lung problems or depression. The second rarely seen type of insomnia is primary insomnia. As the name suggests, it is a disease in itself and is not caused due to some other factor.

The insomnia herbal remedies are as follows:

  • Aniseed tea is an effective insomnia herbal cure. It can be prepared by boiling a small amount of aniseed in a cup of water on a low flame for fifteen minutes. After straining it, the solution can be consumed before going to bed either hot or lukewarm.
  • Celery is regarded by many as a very potent insomnia herbal cure. Juice from celery leaves can be extracted and mixed with honey. This mixture should be taken before going to bed as it helps one to attain good and restful sleep.
  • A mixture of the pulp of ripe bananas along with fried cumin seeds powder makes for another effective insomnia remedy. It helps by inducing sleep in an individual thereby relieving the state of restlessness and sleeplessness.
  • Drinking chamomile herbal tea before going off to sleep is a good insomnia herbal cure.
  • Nutmeg can also be used as an insomnia herbal remedy. Take the powder of nutmeg and mix it with Indian gooseberry juice. This solution aids in getting a good night’s sleep.
  • A good hot water bath that includes rose petals or jojoba or other soothing herbal oils is an effective stimulant to make the body relax and help one to sleep.
  • The list of insomnia herbal remedies also includes poppy seed oil which can be taken every night before sleeping. Also, the milk extracted from poppy seeds mixed with sugar is a good insomnia herbal cure.
  • The juice removed from Valerian herb also facilitates sleep.

A disciplined lifestyle and positive attitude is essential for insomnia to be cured effectively, failing which any insomnia herbal cure will be reduced to a temporary relief.
