Are there any home remedies for hypothyroidism or any over-the-counter supplements I can take



Generally hypothyroidism is seen in women. The symptoms may be deep shallow respiration, obesity, weight loss, heat intolerance, irritation, over anxiety, menstrual disturbance and so on. There are some home cures for hypothyroidism -

  • According to Ayurvedic concept, milk can help in prevention.
  • Paste of jalakumbhi (vegetable) can be applied around the neck to reduce swelling.
  • Jalakumbhi juice can be taken for many times a day.
  • Adding coconut oil in your daily meals is also helpful to improve your metabolism.
  • The ayurvedic medicines as Kanchanar guggulu, Ashwagandharishta, Amritadhaya taila and Mahayogaraj guggulu are also beneficial.
  • Yoga also helps a lot. Surya namaskar, Pavanmuktasan, Halasan, Suptavajrasan are some of them. But do not try these Asanas if you have severe goiter. It is good for boosting thyroid glands.
  • Strengthen thyroid function with black walnut. It is rich in organic iodine and manganese.
  • For swelling in the glands mullein cloves are useful.
  • Foods rich in vitamin A like eggs, yellow vegetables, green vegetables, carrots are beneficial.
