Home remedy to replace thyroid supplement

You have not specified exactly what you are suffering from, but from your description it seems that you probably have hypothyroidism or underactive thyroid disease. As you probably already know, this is a deficiency of the thyroid hormone due to insufficient production of the hormone by the thyroid gland. Medications such as synthroid are basically thyroid supplements, containing various forms of the thyroid hormone, some produced synthetically, and others obtained from animal sources. As yet there is no cure for hypothyroidism - there is no way to get the thyroid gland to start functioning normally and produce an adequate amount of the thyroid hormone. Therefore the only way to treat the disease is to take supplements of the thyroid hormone from other sources, and this usually needs to be done for the rest of the patient's life.

Unfortunately, there is no household replacement for the thyroid supplements. Your thyroid medication is not simply a combination of various drugs that can be obtained from natural sources to at least some extent, as is the case with some other medications. As mentioned before, thyroid medication consists of thyroid supplements that are either synthetically produced or obtained from the thyroid glands of animals such as pigs. What you are using is levothyroxine, which is a synthetically produced form of the thyroid hormone. The hormone cannot be replaced with any household product or home remedy, or in fact even with anything available at the best stocked grocery store. In addition, it is usually not a good idea to replace the thyroid supplement prescribed by your doctor with another brand or generic product. Dosage often varies, and different brands often work differently.

Therefore, if you have run out of your medication, you will unfortunately just have to wait till you can get more. In future, you should try to ensure that there is always a spare pack of your medication at hand.
