How can I help my hypothyroidism without medication?

The improper functioning of the thyroid gland results in hypothyroidism. The thyroid gland plays a very important role in controlling our body's metabolic function. An abnormality of the thyroid gland at birth also known as congenital deformity leads to insufficient production of thyroxin or the thyroid hormone that could lead to hypothyroidism. Symptoms include excessive weight gain, weakness, excessive flow during the menstrual cycles in women and high levels of cholesterol in the blood. This condition is more common among women than in men.

You need to follow a regular exercise routine. Practice yoga as it will help you to lose weight gradually and will tone your body and strengthen your muscles. Or you could also try other forms of exercises like aerobics, dancing or join the gym. If you do not have time for any of these then go for brisk walks daily as his would too help you to balance your weight.

To improve your condition you should drink lots of water throughout, at least 8 to 10 glasses in a day. Have fresh salads and sprouts daily without the heavy dressings. Eat broccoli and asparagus that are rich in iodine, eat dark green and yellow vegetables that are rich in vitamin A like capsicum, carrots, spinach, eggs, red and yellow bell peppers, mangoes, oranges, etc. Avoid drinking coffee, tea, alcohol and smoking cigarettes. Also avoid highly refined and processed foods that hardly have any nutrition. Consume food that is rich in fiber like fresh green leafy vegetables, whole grains, beans, oatmeal, etc. Make sure you eat a well balanced diet that has sufficient vitamins and minerals needed for the proper function of your body.

Intake of spirulina helps to regulate the thyroid and is excellent to boost your health and siberian ginseng supports the thyroid health and is also useful for the adrenal and thymus glands.

Agnus castus helps to balance the estrogen, which interferes with normal thyroid functions by supporting the pituitary gland. Mullein helps to protect and cover the tissues and thus helps to reduce swelling in the glands. Irish moss helps to nourish the thyroid and hence is useful in the thyroid gland problem. Estrogen levels are balanced by black cohosh and hence it is considered useful in thyroid conditions. Bladderwrack has a high content of iodine and is good for hypothyroidism. Similarly black walnut is rich in manganese and iodine and helps to strengthen and nourish the thyroid.
