People with dry skin usually have an oily t-zone that is prone to acne, in its various forms. The t-zone refers to the forehead, nose and chin which resemble the letter ‘T’. This region of the face tends to have overactive sebaceous glands that are responsible for the secretion of natural oils, making the area oilier than the rest of the face. Besides, most of us tend to concentrate on the cheeks when washing our face or using skin care products, little realizing that the t-zone, especially the nose, is the most prone to the accumulation of dead skin cells, grime and the formation of blackheads which are caused by clogged pores. Hormonal changes, stress, pollution and exposure to the sun’s rays can aggravate the condition.

There are a number of remedies for treating combination skin. Washing your face with a mild face wash will help in getting rid of excess oil and grime without stripping the skin of its precious natural oils, thus preventing further drying of the rest of your skin. A final rinse with a mixture of warm water and tea tree oil will help in reducing the breakout as the oil has the ability to kill microbes responsible for the spread of infection. Exposing your face to steam will help in opening up the pores while getting rid of dirt and dead cells that clog the pores. Adding a few drops of lavender oil to the water will help in reducing acne and provides relaxation as well. Alternately, soaking a small towel in this mixture, squeezing out the excess water and placing the moist, warm towel on the face for 10 minutes will also prove beneficial. Immediately after this, you can use a blackhead remover to take out the blackheads and dead cells. However, do keep in mind that using your fingernails to do so can aggravate the condition. Aloe gel is a recommended moisturizer for combination skin.

A layer of lemon juice and honey, applied 20 minutes before a bath, is recommended for the treatment of blackheads. Before washing it off, gently massage the face with sugar granules till the sugar dissolves completely, concentrating on the nose. Lemon juice rejuvenates and tones the skin, kills infection causing germs and lightens blemishes due to its natural bleaching properties. Honey nourishes skin while dealing with infection and the sugar exfoliates the skin. This face mask reduces the excess secretion of oil and moisturizes the skin as well. Hence, it is suitable for combination skin.
