Why do Asians and blacks have dark blemishes under and around the buttock area? What can be done to stop or change this?

It is very common for darker skinned people to develop dark patches on the inner thighs, groin and buttocks. This generally occurs due to friction of the skin. The buttocks also tend to have layers of fat which can increase the possibility of friction and chaffing. This constant rubbing of the skin can cause it to become darker than normal. This can occur on any type of skin color. Those of ethnic origin have darker skin tone and hence the discolored patches of skin also appear dark. The buttocks area is also prone to sweating as there is not enough circulation of air due to undergarments that fit tightly. Sometimes skin pigmentation can occur due to hormonal imbalances. It is advisable to consult a doctor in such cases. Hyper pigmentation of the skin can also occur due to genetic factors and is often seen to be running in families.

The best thing you can do is to reduce any excess weight if you are overweight. Also reduce sweating in the buttocks and groin region by wearing comfortable cotton garments. Synthetic materials can increase the friction and can also cause excessive sweating. Application of talcum powder in the affected areas will help to prevent friction. Once the friction stops, the darkened patches will slowly begin to fade away. There are several natural methods by which you can reduce the darkening of the skin around the buttocks. An effective skin lightening pack can be made with a teaspoon of sandalwood powder, a teaspoon of oatmeal powder and a teaspoon of buttermilk. Mix all the ingredients well together and apply to the affected areas regularly. It is also very beneficial to apply lemon juice to the darkened skin. This can be done by rubbing a slice of lemon on the skin thrice a day. After applying leave it on for about ten minutes and then wash it off. For a more convenient method, you can also soak in a tub of water to which one cup of lemon juice has been added.

Potato is a popular remedy for bleaching the skin and raw potato can be grated and applied to the skin. You can also extract the juice from grated potato and apply to the affected areas with the help of a cotton ball. Aloe vera gel applied to the pigmented skin four times daily will help considerably in reducing the marks if used regularly. You can even rub cucumber juice over the dark patches. A paste of freshly ground mint leaves also works well in lightening the skin.
