I am a 44 year old man. I want to know why my heal hurts and swell after I play basketball with my kids.

The feet are amongst the most stressed of the body because not only do we use them to walk at least four times the circumference of the world in our lifetimes, we also put a tremendous amount of pressure on them everyday. Hence, when your feet send you a message, you should listen to them. You haven't described your symptoms fully but there are a number of reasons why you could have aching feet including putting on a lot of weight, plantar fasciitis, or arthritis. It is very important that you correctly diagnose the reasons for your swelling and pain and consult your doctor as soon as possible.

You could take a number of simple precautions at home to relieve yourself of the pain. Soak your feet in a carbonated water for a little while. You could also dissolve two tablespoons of Epsom salts in warm water and soak your seat in this for fifteen minutes. Remember that Epsom salts may dry your feet a little and you should moisturize them after this soak. You can also use alternate hot and cold vinegar to relieve the pain from sprains, strains, and general foot aches. After heating equal quantities of vinegar and water, you should soak a cloth in the solution, drain out the excess and then wrap the cloth around your foot. Leave it this way for five minutes. You should then mix equal quantities of vinegar and cold water and repeat the same procedure. This should be repeated thrice.
