Towelhead Tumeric
suggested by Joe on Wednesday, January 24, 2007

I've been on the tumeric regiment for 3 days only to see the condition deteriorate. If it worsens tomorrow then I'm off to the doctor for antibiotics. p.s. I've not tried the steak treatment but i'm thinking I am better off just to bake my potato, grill my steak and season my veggies with the curry.

Space Heater Remedy
suggested by Edward on Friday, January 12, 2007

After came to this website after suffering from a very painful boil for a few days. The boil was located on my buttocks and was larger than a bottle cap. Freakishly large in my opinion the largest boil I had ever had in my life. It grew in a matter of days from nothing. I consulted my sister who was a surgical nurse. She had lanced a boil the size of a lemon once. She is generally enthusiastic about grotesque medical procedures. She insisted if she were here she would hold me down and "pop it" but I headed the advice of medical sites which discouraged "squeezing" of boils. The first home remedy I tried was garlic and onion juice, it seemed to have some effect producing a sensation distinct from the usual throbing pain. I placed a paper towel soaked with these juices on the boil for about an hour with a hot water bag made from a 1 quart zip lock bag. After hours of using water bags to warm the boil and acheive modest comfort, I realized I was not going to be able to sleep this way. In frustration I set out ot break this boil. I poked it gave it a gental squeeze, but the behemoth would not give so easily. It even took the form of my fingers pressing its sides as if it were clay. I prepared a Razor and some small scissors in listerine since I had no other disinfectant. I cleaned the skin but chose not to cut it open. I had a space heater. I figured the steady stream of heat would at least provide me with comfort so that I may sleep. Much to my suprise the boil could tolerate far more heat than uninflamed skin could. It had a drying effect. I figured with a constant blast of hot dry air the skin should give way and rupture do to the internal pressure. I fell asleep with my boil to the heater and a thin sheet in between. I awoke to a sharp burning sensation like my skin spliting. I examined the area, there were some red marks and what looked like a white area forming under the thin skin. The results were encouraging. I restlessly positioned myself in front of the heater with and without the sheet until I finally fell asleep with the heater blasting the boil again. I awoke hours later to a new day, the pain was myteriously absent, I could feel the moister on my legs i was immediatly excited. Indeed the boil had given way as I slept on my stomach. The drying effect ruptured it. Oddly if ruptured from its border not its center. A thin sheet of skin was convering the hemoraging center of the boil. The gush of blood in my sleep projected 18 inches in a 5 inch swath along the thigh facing opposite. It would have been something to see my blood gush such a distance, but I had slept through it. I cleaned up the mess and used a gauze bandage since it is still draining. Well thats my tip: clean with alchol to wipe down the boil, put the boil in front of a hot air stream simlar to that from a space heater. After a long enough period the drying effect will rupture the skin. The space heater will also alleviate pain while this goes on, it will none the less produce mild pain as it nears the breaking point. But it is nonetheless more confortable than no heat at all.

Prid drawing salve
suggested by [unspecified] on Thursday, January 11, 2007

I spontaneously began getting boils some years ago and just as sudden as they came they stopped. I've had my knee cap lanced, to other parts of my body leading to surgery. Prid is a very thick, brown drawing salve that is hard to find but stops the growth of the boil by drawing out the core/ fluid. Drinking lots of water, cutting out carbonated drinks, taking multi-vitamins, Cleansing-Formula (sold at GNC, General Nutrition Center)and garlic, also helped keep them from coming back.

Tea tree oil...
suggested by [unspecified] on Thursday, January 11, 2007

I have had my share of boils, and I find if I catch them early enough and put some tea tree oil on them with a cotton ball, then they clear up without even draining or anything. You can repeat it twice a day till it goes away, but I've often had it work after just once. They just go away. I find that when I'm on a hormonal birth control I tend to get them more often, as well as if I'm close to my period. Good luck!
