What is Pneumothorax?

When air or gas collects in the pleural space between the lungs and the chest, the condition is referred to as pneumothorax and can cause the lungs to collapse. There are many reasons why pneumothorax can occur ranging from and open chest wound that lets in the free air into the chest, a severe bout of coughing or an asthmatic attack, or it may even occur without any specific cause.
