Natural Remedies for Anxiety

Most teenagers are concerned about doing well socially, in school or at sports.

A loving mother is often troubled about her children’s future. Fathers frequently fret about being able to provide for their family. Someone else may be worried about his or her relationships.

Yet others live under the constant fear that something bad is about to happen. All of us have gone through such unpleasant feelings, but when this feeling becomes persistent and begins to hinder your day-to-day activities, you are possibly facing Generalized Anxiety Disorder.

What Is Happening Here?

We do get anxious over things, small or big.  There’s an increased aggravation accompanied by generalized feelings of fear and apprehension. If we were to dwell upon our anxieties we would enter into the realm of intense, irrational fear of objects or events.

We might experience palpitations, shortness of breath, stomach aches, or headaches. We can also become irritable, restless, and jumpy, have trouble concentrating, waiting and watching for signs or incidences of danger. We fret and make ourselves unhappy.  This need not be so.

What Can I Do?

To begin with, there will always be some things that will remind you of happy memories from the past.

Maybe, it is the aroma of roasting turkey in your grandmother’s kitchen, or the pleasant fragrance of your mother’s perfume which pleased you when you were seven. These smells are alive in your mind, because they are tied together with happy memories.  Make an effort to remind yourself of these comforting thoughts.

When you get anxious, add a few drops of essential oils of lavender, rose, rosemary, jasmine or valerian to baths, compresses, and massage oils. They can also be dabbed on a handkerchief and inhaled or steam inhaled.

These essential oils are anti viral, diuretic, anti-bacterial, tranquilizing, and adrenal stimulating.  They result in immediate emotional and physiological balance.

What Can I Take?

Instead of popping a pill, you can partake of calcium rich food.  Milk is a good source, but if you are lactose intolerant, you may try sardines, canned salmon, collard greens, baked beans, peas, goat’s milk, and oranges.

Magnesium is said to relax overwrought muscles. Nuts, raisins, oatmeal, vegetables, chocolate milk, and meat are some of the main sources of magnesium.

Foods rich in vitamin B such as fruits, vegetables, germinated wheat, yogurt, and pulses can calm you. Add a dash of honey to your lemonade or fruits to heal and calm your ruffled feathers. Above all, enhance your self- worth. You are more precious than that which troubles you.
