Before we talk about a good home remedy for a possible Brown Recluse spider bite, let us take a look at some of the facts about this spider bite. To begin with, this spider bite is not fatal and the bite is almost always painless. The main symptoms will be irritation and itching at the affected areas.
Here are some effective home remedies which can deal with such spider bites.
- You can help the swelling to abate by placing a slice of raw onion on it.
- Basil essential oil is also recommended for the treatment of a Brown Recluse spider bite. You can either use the oil externally or internally for treating such a bite. For external treatment of the wound, you will need to clean the wound well and then put some basil oil directly on the wound. Then tape a small wad of cotton over the wound. Change this pad of cotton about four times in the day. You can also make basil tea and drink this several times a day in order to obtain relief from the bite.
- Make a paste of baking soda and water and apply it onto the bite. This will help to reduce the swelling around the affected area.
- Clean the spider bite area well with soap and water. Then apply a cool compress onto it. This will help to reduce the swelling and inflammation.
- If the bite is on the hand or the leg, tie a tight bandage on the bite. This will stop the venom from spreading to other parts of the body.

You might consider using Lovosceles reclusa (Brown recluse spider) homeopathic remedy. If you are not able to locate this, you may also consider Ledum palustre homeopathic remedy, since spider bites are puncture wounds. Dr. Karen Benton, Naturopathic Physician
