Can B-complex capsule be consumed together with Multi-Vitamin capsule, or they should be taken separate and at a different time.

(Sep 2, 2007)

It is very clear that your body needs vitamins and minerals on a daily basis in order to function properly. Vitamin B complex can be described as a group of vitamin B supplements that you can take for improving your metabolism, your skin, your nervous system and your overall health. In case it is determined that your diet is lacking in Vitamin B, your doctor may advise you to take a Vitamin B complex capsule on a daily basis. Alternately, if your diet is low in several other vitamins too, your doctor may just advise you to take Multi-Vitamin capsule instead, which will contain the required amounts of all the vitamins required by your body, including Vitamin B.

It is best not to add both these supplements, to your daily diet, unless otherwise recommended by your doctor.  An overdose of vitamins can be quite dangerous and can have severe side effects on your health. However, if you are asked to add both the supplements to your diet make sure that you keep a gap of at least a few hours between the two.

While supplements are a great way to ensure that you get your daily intake of vitamins, they can have an adverse effect on your body, especially if taken in excess. Therefore, it is better if you increase your intake of foods that are naturally high in vitamins and minerals.

When vitamin B complex supplements are taken in the prescribed doses they do not cause side effects but an overdose can cause a number of side effects which can be detrimental to the overall health of an individual. Some of the common side effects of vitamin b complex especially Thiamine (B1) include palpitations, insomnia, skin hypersensitivity, high blood pressure, irritation and agitation. Similarly the side effects of vitamin supplements of riboflavin or vitamin B12 include vomiting, fatigue, nausea, low blood pressure and even anemia. A high dosage of vitamin B3 or niacin can cause side effects like skin irritation, headaches, flushing, nausea and vomiting. Side effects of vitamin b complex in the case of an overdose of vitamin B5 also known as Pantothenic acid include joint pain, edema, dehydration, depression and fatigue. Tingling feeling or numbness in the fingers, mood swings, loss of appetite, loss of muscle co-ordination, bloating, anxiety and even kidney failure are some of the more serious side effects of vitamin b complex overdose. It is therefore very important to remember the side effects of vitamin supplements especially in the case of pregnant women, lactating mothers, diabetic patients and people suffering from allergic reactions to medications so that serious health complications can be avoided.
