Excessive menstrual bleeding is often a cause of concern to most women at some point in their reproductive lives. However, you must first know that this can be classified as a problem only if it meets certain criteria. Some of them are as follows: if you need to change your pad every hour or so; if you need to get up at night and change your pad; if you need to use double sanitary napkins on a regular basis; if you are having large blood clots that are coming out with your flow; if you have a constant and dull ache in your lower abdomen and if your period lasts for more than a week. If you meet any or all of these criteria, then you should be worried about your heavy menstrual flow. If not, you are probably not in the range of concern.

The causes for such heave menstrual bleeding may be things like a contraceptive device that has been inserted, hormonal imbalance, uterine fibroids, polyps, malfunctioning ovaries, a complicated pregnancy or some sort of medication that is not agreeing with you. However, it is important for you to know that self help is probably the worst thing you can do to yourself if you are facing any or all of these problems. Please see a doctor who will be able to tell you what exactly is wrong and will also administer appropriate treatment.
