Everyone wants a flat belly. From indulging in crash diets to working out for seven hours a day, people go to great extents to ensure that their belly is flat and firm. Almost everyone yearns to sport a great physique; however, very few people are ready to give what it takes in order to achieve such a strong and healthy physique.
Thus indulging in various crash diets and rigorous exercise regimen’s that do more harm than good to ones body is a common occurrence.
Although, the importance of exercising cannot be undermined when it comes to losing weight around your stomach, you must never overdo it. The stomach muscles are independent of the support of any other muscle; therefore, it cannot bear any excessive pressure applied on it. This makes it prone to injury due to excessive stomach toning exercises. Here are a few suggestions, and exercises that will help you lose unwanted weight around your stomach. This in turn will help you achieve a firm and taut abdomen.
- It is very important to be patient. The stomach muscles are hidden beneath layers of fat that have accumulated over a considerable period of time. Therefore, it will take some amount of time before the results of your efforts start to show.
- Start by maintaining a strict diet that contains fiber, protein, plant sources of carbohydrates, and monounsaturated fats. This means you should consume whole meal bread, lean meats, green leafy vegetables, and very minimal amounts of olive oil. You will have to avoid foods with a high fat content like red meats, fried and oily foodstuffs, junk food, and cheese.
- Eat 6 light healthy meals rather than your regular 3 overstuffed meals. This provides the body with enough time to assimilate the food you have consumed.
- Cardio exercises are very effective when it comes to burning the fats present around your stomach or any other part of the body. Jogging, running, cycling, skipping, swimming, and aerobics are some of the most efficient cardio exercises for losing weight.
- Follow up your cardio workout by performing the following exercises that are aimed at toning the stomach muscles.
a. Sit-ups: This exercise aims at strengthening the abdominal muscles and hip flexors. You can start by doing 2 sets consisting of 20 sit-ups.
b. Stomach Crunches: Also known as curl-ups this exercise works on the upper abdominal region. Do 2 sets of crunches consisting of 20 curl-ups each.
c. Leg raises: This exercise helps in strengthening the abdominal muscles and quadriceps. Do 2 sets of this exercise consisting of 20 leg raises.
These exercises should be done in alternation with weight training for best results. This alternation also gives the abdominal muscles enough rest in order to maintain its tenacity.
