Sporting a black eye to school, college or work can be an embarrassing situation for a lot people. It might be a result of a sport injury or a college brawl. Mostly it is just a small bruise or a blow.
It can go away on its own with just a little patience and time. But if you want to get rid of it quickly, some home remedies can help you do so. Some very natural and simple home remedies can help reduce swelling and remove the black eye faster than its normal and natural course. These remedies can help speed up the healing of the black eye considerably.
A very effective, simple and time tested remedy is using something cold to apply on the black eye. Anything cold works fast and it helps reducing the swelling. Since it constricts the blood vessels it reduces the internal bleeding and thus helps in removing the black and blue discoloration. Anything which is cold can help. Use Ice packs or frozen vegetables or make an ice pack at home. Put some crushed ice in a plastic bag and tape this plastic bag to the forehead. This will stay for long and will also put less pressure on the eye. Or else Mix 2 parts water with 1 part of alcohol. Put this mixture in a nylon bag and keep it in the freezer to freeze. Once it is frozen it can be used as an ice pack and the advantage is this the bag is flexible and can be helpful in putting less pressure on the already swollen eye. Initially apply ice at least for 10 minutes every hour and slowly increase the frequency. Make sure that you apply ice packs or anything cold continuously for two days.
Just the way cold helps, similarly heat also helps. Use a warm compress to reduce swelling and to remove the blackness. Heat helps in increasing the blood circulation and thus helps dispersing the blood. This disperses the blood which is clotted under the skin. This helps in reducing the swelling of the eye and also improves the skin color. One can either use a warm compress or just soak a clean cloth in hot water and apply it on the eye. Another way is to dip a cloth in the water and wring it over the eye so that the water flows over the eye and the surrounding affected region. If swelling persists, consult a doctor.
