Lip discoloration can happen due to a variety of reasons. A lip infection, as you have mentioned, is one of them. Besides that, heavy smoking, use of unsuitable cosmetics, use of certain drugs, exposure to harsh sunlight, and heredity conditions also play a role in bringing about lip discoloration.

It is not clear how deep or dark your mark is. Usually, deeper marks are hard to get rid of than common surface marks. Your mark on the lower lip, if not very deep, can go away with some of the home remedies as given below. Drink plenty of water – this is the first and probably most well known remedy for treating any kind skin discoloration. So, keep drinking a sufficient amount of water, about 10 glasses a day. Drinking water helps flush out toxins from your body and also keeps it properly hydrated.

Use natural bleaching agents, like lime juice, on your lips. Lime juice can help fade the mark on your lips. Squeeze lime juice in a bowl and apply it regularly on the mark. You can also mix lime juice with glycerin and then apply it on your affected skin. For best results, apply this mixture on your lips before going to bed and leave it on overnight. Fresh milk cream mixed with saffron is yet another remedy for removing discoloration and marks from lips. Put saffron in the milk cream and leave it overnight. Apply this mixture on your lips in the morning and for the rest of the day at regular intervals. You can also use clarified butter in the same way.

Try to exfoliate the dark spot on your lip by gently massaging it with a soft brush. Apply something to soften the skin before doing this, like milk cream or petroleum jelly. However, be careful not to rub the skin too harshly, or else you may damage the skin even more. The trick is to do this gently, but regularly, over a period of time. If you have used some cosmetics that may be unsuitable, avoid them altogether. Also, apply some sunscreen lotion on your skin before going out in the sun. Finally, do also pay attention to your diet. Eat plenty of green vegetables and fresh fruits to keep your body’s metabolism healthy. Avoid aerated drinks, caffeinated drinks, and alcohol as much as you can. Smoking, being a strong reason for lip discoloration, should be avoided altogether. Besides these, you should also undertake some light daily exercises and stay healthy.
