What are broken capillaries?

Broken capillaries mainly appear on nose and cheeks. Broken capillaries occur when tiny capillaries are dilated and stretched due to pressure from large veins. These dilated capillaries are very delicate and tend to rupture with slight pressure. When the capillary ruptures, blood oozes out and flows in the direction of the capillaries. When the blood dries it causes ugly red spots often resembling a spider’s web.

Fair skin people are more prone to get broken capillaries along with old age (skin becomes more fragile and thin). Besides this cause sun exposure, excessive abuse of harsh exfoliating products, extreme temperatures and even frequent nose blowing can cause broken capillaries. Prevention and patience is a key to treat broken capillaries as they often shrink and fade on their own.
