Rather  than focusing on the symptoms of fibromyalgia, a naturopathic physician tries to identify the cause.  Although the triggers for fibromyalgia may be mental, emotional or physical, I believe the cause of many chronic illnesses (including fibromyalgia, arthritis, etc.) is  underlying inflammation.  This inflammation may be expressed in arteries, joints, muscles, colon, etc., depending upon the person's ability to eliminate and individual organ system characteristics, based on lifestyle and history.    http://www.countrydoc.com

Fibromyalgia, common among women, is a chronic condition characterized by
- severe pain in the ligaments, muscles and tendons
- fatigue and
-multiple tender points(places on the body where slight pressure causes pain).

It is characterized by pain in specific areas of your body when pressure is applied, including the back of your head, upper back and neck, upper chest, elbows, hips and knees, whereas typical symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis includes stiffening and pain in the joints, as such. But, if a person suffers from ankylosing spondylitis or rheumatoid arthritis, the probability of the person developing fibromyalgia is greater.
