Dark circles under the eyes are a very common problem, stemming from extreme fatigue and lack of adequate sleep and rest. Almost 8 or 9 out of 10 people suffer from dark circles under the eyes. Apart from exhaustion, dark circles can also be caused by hyper pigmentation of the skin under the eyes, tanning due to excessive exposure to the harmful rays of the sun, lack of a balanced diet with all the essential nutrients and consumption of certain drugs and medications.
Increasing age is another factor that leads to dark circles under the eyes. Fortunately, though common, dark circles are not a serious problem and can be treated easily using simple home remedies.
The most important step in treating dark circles is getting a minimum of 7 to 8 hours of sleep everyday and avoiding undue stress, whether physical, mental or emotional.
It is also extremely important to follow a healthy and balanced diet rich in essential nutrients. Vitamin C and iron are particularly important for reducing dark circles. Above all, it is crucial to drink the recommended amount of liquids in the form of water of fresh fruit juices, so that your skin is properly nourished and well hydrated. Apart from this you can use some simple techniques to gradually reduce the dark circles under the eyes. Potato juice is excellent for reducing the dark circles, so you can apply some potato juice under your eyes using a cotton ball soaking in the juice. Similarly lemon juice and even tomato juice is beneficial for reducing the dark circles under the eyes. Alternately, you can mix some lemon juice with cucumber juice and apply this under the eyes. Mint is also excellent for reducing the dark circles around the eyes and relieving exhausted eyes, so you can either wipe the skin around your eyes with a cotton ball soaked in mint juice or place some crushed mint leaves on your fatigued eyes for around 15 to 20 minutes. Placing cold, wet tea bags on closed eyes for approximately twenty minutes is another way of providing relief to your exhausted eyes and to reduce the dark circles. You can also make a daily habit of wiping the area around your eyes as soon as you come home in the evening with a soft cloth that has been dipped in refrigerated rose water. This is excellent for refreshing tired eyes and reducing the dark circles under the eyes.
