High blood pressure and high blood cholesterol are medical conditions that are becomingly increasingly common and are the main causes for heart diseases. Blood pressure that has constantly stays at 90/140 or above is a cause for major concern and should not ignored. It is primarily caused by a bad lifestyle with inadequate exercise and rest and an unhealthy diet which has also led to weight problems.
Consumption of excessive alcohol, birth pills and certain medications can also lead to hypertension, as can other underlying medical conditions such as kidney and thyroid diseases. Cholesterol is basically of three types : Very Low Density Lipoproteins, High-Density Lipoprotein and Low-Density Lipoprotein. Of these three, LDL or Low density lipoprotein should be kept in control. Though cholesterol is necessary for the body, it can be harmful and increase risks of heart attack if it is very high. The main cause for high blood cholesterol is excessive intake of fried foods rich in butter and ghee and sugar, white flour and read meats. There are several simple home remedies that can help you bring your blood cholesterol and blood pressure in control.
In order to bring down your blood cholesterol and blood pressure you should first improve your diet, ensuring that it incorporates plenty of proteins, vitamins and fiber. You should use sunflower oil, soya bean oil or olive oil for your cooking and avoid ground nut oil which is bad for cholesterol. You can boil 2 tbsp of coriander seeds in 1 glass of water, and drink it after straining and cooling it. If consumed twice a day, this concoction is beneficial for reducing blood cholesterol levels. Similarly alfalfa seeds and primrose also help to reduce blood cholesterol. Regular intake of garlic has found to have positive effects on high LDL cholesterol levels. You should have 1 clove of garlic every day, first thing in the morning and also incorporate it in your food preparations since it also helps to reduce blood pressure. Apart from garlic, coriander and fenugreek leaves are excellent for reducing both blood cholesterol and blood pressure. A mixture of 100 g melon seeds and 100 g poppy seeds can be powdered and stored in a jar. You can take 1 tsp of this mixture in a glass of water and drink it twice a day to reduce your blood pressure. Another effective mixture that should be consumed twice a day is 1 tsp of cumin powder with 1 tsp honey and 1 tsp ginger juice. A juice of 25-30 curry leaves prepared in 1 cup of water can be strained and had first thing in the morning to lower blood pressure.
