My 1 Year Old Baby Has A High Fever What Do I Do?

It is quite common for a one year old baby to be infected with high fever. Some people believe that fever in children can help them develop immunity and fight the infection. Due to the high temperature, the body emits materials which fight against the organisms that caused the infection. As per norms, you are supposed to wait for three days before starting any kind of medication prescribed by the doctor but at home your first step should be to lower the high temperature. Here are some of the home remedies for fever. First of all, you need to fill a vessel with cold water (not ice cold) and add a few drops of Eau de Cologne in it. Take a dry cloth, dip it into the vessel making it completely wet and drain out the excess water. Place it on the baby's forehead for two minutes and repeat the process. You should be doing this three to four times in a day for at least 20 to 25 minutes. This will help lower the temperature to a great extent.

Diet during fever is also a very important thing in this case. Make sure your child consumes fluids throughout the day. The child should also be given healthy, digestible food such as small portions of rice, grains, bananas and cereal among many others. The baby's temperature should be checked every two hours with the help of a thermometer by placing it in the armpit. It is also advisable to give a warm sponge bath to your child not more than once a day.

A few things that you need to take into consideration is that if the fever continues for more than three days or the child emits phlegm from the throat and liquid from the nose, you will have to consult a physician as it might be a viral infection. The doctor will prescribe antibiotics which will help the child recover quickly. A natural home remedy is considered to be the safest and the most effective way of treating high fever.
