A seven year old child with fever needs to be taken care of within 24 hours. Even if the child has a low grade fever of about 100 degrees Fahrenheit, then she needs medical attention at once. And this is particularly important if the fever is unexplained.
Generally, developing a fever is the body's natural defense mechanism and way of fighting any sort of external attack. This could be fighting an internal infection as well. Children, particularly, are prone to developing fever since they have an active immune system which will fight anything that threatens the host. It is not necessary you take a child to the hospital, however. You can first call a doctor and get advice about the fever on the phone. But the time this problem escalates into an emergency is when the child has had a continual fever for more than a week. In this case, you would need to take the child to an Emergency room quickly.
It would also be better if you have some knowledge as to how and why the child has developed fever before you take her to the emergency room. If your child is hurt or injured in any way, then this could be a possible cause for the development of fever. If there is some other condition she is suffering from, such as a cold or an infection of some sort, this could also be a probable cause for developing fever. Any kind of stomach disorder which is hitherto undetected could also result in fever. Sometimes, the child can also be suffering from some sort of stomach infection, which is normally a rampant cause of fever. Just keep in mind that fever is not a bad thing in itself. As a matter of fact, it is a sign that something is wrong and needs attention and it should always be taken such as well.
