Water has probably got trapped in your ears due to the fact that the ear canal which leads to the eardrums is somewhat constricted. The accumulation of ear wax over a period of time and the usage of swabs to cleanse your ears may have also resulted in pushing the ear wax deeper inside your ear, thus leading to the condition you are experiencing.
The most ideal way to have the water removed from the ears is to let gravity perform its task.
There is a good reason why this process does not occur naturally always. To give you an analogy, dip a straw in water and shut the end facing the other side with your finger. When you lift the straw you notice that the water remains trapped inside. It is for the same reason that water gets trapped in your ears. Normally, a slight adjustment made by shifting the position of the jaw would enable some air to move around the pocket of water, loosening it and finally draining it. Tilting your head sideways is the best solution to achieve this. Requiring the ear to be parallel to a flat surface so that the gravitational force acting on the water will be greater is actually a typical misconception. This would probably hold true in the case of bigger amounts of water, where the water would be led to drain on its own by its weight. It is slightly more complicated when you’re dealing with a smaller amount of water. You will need to tilt your head between 45 to 60 degree angles. This will ensure the pocket of water will be tilted on one end thus creating an area of weak surface tension on the other. This will lead to the breaking of the tension of the droplet, letting air around it and thus draining it naturally. Normally water getting stuck in the ears proves to be more of a minor irritant than anything else. However, if this were to happen in winter, you may be heading for some serious ear problem, especially if you step out in the cold with a pocket of water in your ear.
There are some other home remedies that could be considered as well. You can use your hair dryer on a low setting to evaporate any water from the ear canal. Another alternative believed to be effective in the removal of water from the ears is to chew gum. Water trapped in your ears can be naturally dislodged by chewing gum as the pressure of air from the middle ear can push out the trap water sufficiently, thus draining it.

Natural Cure for Water in Ears
If you feel you have water in your ears, you can try the following natural remedies and feel comfortable: - Prepare an ear drop by blending kitchen vinegar and half rubbing alcohol. Put few drops of this ear drop into the affected ear and feel the comfort. This mixture helps to inhibit the growth of fungi.
- You can even try a mixture of vinegar and water in equal quantities to reduce sting and echoing.
- You can use some of the over the counter pills such as Auro-Dri and Swim Ear. These antiseptic medications are beneficial for inhibiting the growth of bacteria and fungi.
- If water in your ear has become painful, and you need comfort and relaxation, try some good pain killers available in drug stores. Aspirin and acetaminophen are best for reducing pain. Aspirin should be given to children because a negative reactive with aspirin may cause a life-threatening neurological condition.
- Regularly dry and drain your ears. This will help you keep bacteria and fungi out of your ears because the hottest place for these micro-organisms is wet places.
- You can even use your hair dryer to dry your ears. Do anything to dry them or else infections will pop into your ears causing painful and irritating conditions.
