Blood pressure advice

HI I am 37 years and 175 cm tall and my weight is 83 kgs. My BP last week was 160/ 40. The Doc says that it is high. I would like to know what to do. I work for in hotel industry.

Your systolic pressure seems to be high but on the contrary your diastolic pressure is low. To keep blood pressure under control certain lifestyle modifications along with exercise and medications are very important. Try the following simple diet and lifestyle modifications for the same –

  • Try to lose the excess weight, according to your height your ideal body weight should be 7-8 kg less.


    Excess weight is a major risk factor for high blood pressure and its complications.
  • A diet low in sodium and high in potassium should be consumed. Lower your visible salt intake. Foods high in sodium like processed foods, pickles, ketchup, junk foods, salted pork or sausages, smoked meat, canned foods, salted nuts, wafers or chips should also be minimized. Read the food labels for sodium and potassium content and decide wisely.
  • Focus on healthy diet comprising of whole grain and cereals, sprouts, pulses, lots of fresh fruits and dark green leafy vegetables.
  • Exercises will not only help to lower the body weight and keep you fit but will also help to keep your blood pressure under control. Avoid smoking, alcohol and undue stress as far as possible.
