How can I prevent my legs from swelling up

You have not mentioned if you have suffered an accident or if you are allergic to any food item. You should visit a doctor if you have had a fall or if you experience pain in part of your leg. Swelling also occurs when blood gathers in one particular section of the body, like a hand or a leg.

Our legs are constantly overworked since we spend hours on them - standing, walking running. If your legs swell soon after a day at work, then you really need to put them up. Sit on a chair and elevate your legs by placing them on a stool. You can also soak a bandage in water and tie this tightly around your swollen leg. Once the bandage is in place you can use ice packs on the leg. Pack ice cubes in two plastic bags and hold these on the affected leg for around twenty minutes. Remember to keep your legs at an elevation.

If your job involves being on your feet for long periods of time, then you can ensure that the blood circulation is not affected by lifting your feet off the ground. That is, lift each foot as if you were walking in place. However, if your legs continue swelling then you should visit a doctor.
