Home Remedy For Dark Elbow

Generally, the skin around the elbow is always one or two shades darker than the rest of the arm. That’s because that area is covered with skin that is made up very fine folds to facilitate the bending of the arm. And these fine folds tend to gather sweat and dust without us realizing it, causing the skin to darken. However, if your skin in this area is darker than normal, chances are it is caused because of the constant friction of your elbow with a table or some other surface. Try and avoid this friction, if possible. Just as it takes a long time for the skin around the elbow to darken, remember that it will take equally long to remove the darkness.

You can start off by regularly exfoliating the skin around your elbow. That is one area that we usually forget to exfoliate and that is one of the areas that has a great amount of dead skin cells. A scrub that will prove to be highly effective is a mixture of yogurt, coarsely powdered almonds, olive oil and lime juice. Mix all of them into a thick paste and scrub it over your elbows for a few minutes. Yogurt and lime will work on the darkness while the almonds and olive oil will work on making the skin softer. Usually, along with becoming dark, the skin around the elbow also becomes rough. This mixture will therefore take care of both the problems. Another mixture that will take care of both these problems is a concoction made up of almonds, honey and milk. For this, you will need to soak the almonds overnight in milk, you can also add a strand or two of saffron to the milk if you want and then grind them into a paste in the morning. To this, you need to add honey and your paste is ready to be applied.

Apart from this, you can use fruits and vegetables such as oranges, lemon, tomatoes, and cucumber to lighten the color of your elbows. These fruits and vegetables have natural bleaching ingredients that work well when used with other ingredients or even if they are used on their own. You can mix orange juice with gram flour and honey and use it to scrub your elbows. Or else you can mix cucumber juice with lemon juice and apply it to the affected area to lighten the color.

Dark skin home remedy

Excessively dark skin at the elbows or knees is usually because of friction and dryness. There are several home remedies that you can try, but at the same time you should try to minimise friction at your elbows and also try to keep them moist and clean. Vitamin E and aloe are beneficial for most skin problems, so you should try applying them. Vitamin E is available as an oil at most medical stores, as is aloe gel. If you have access to an aloe plant, you can rub a freshly broken leaf against your elbow skin. Other remedies that are often recommended and work for some people include:

  • Lemons. You can simply cut a lemon and rub it against your skin, or else mix lemon juice with milk cream, with cucumber juice and/or turmeric, with coconut oil, or with vinegar.
  • A mixture of vinegar and yoghurt. Apply the paste to your elbow and leave it for 15-20 minutes.
  • A mixture of milk and gramflour with a bit of turmeric powder. Apply the paste to your elbow and leave it for half an hour.
  • Onion or garlic. Simply cut an onion or a clove of garlic and rub against your elbow for a few minutes.
