There are several ways you can take care of the embarrassing problem of a black eye at home, without resorting to the aid and assistance of a doctor. If you have suffered an injury on and around your eye area, then you can follow some simple remedial measures at home. If the injury is less than a day old, you can start with applying a warm compress to it.
This will disperse the blood that cumulates in the area and not allow swelling or discoloration. Contrary to popular belief, ice is not the best or most easy solution to tackle this problem. Not at least for the first 24 hours.
You can use ice after 24 hours have passed for good results. If you have already got a discolored eye, then it is quite ineffective to use warm compresses. Then you should merely stick to using ice. This is because the blood has already pooled and formed the blackness. Now what remains to be tackled is the swelling part of the injury. Ice packs are the most highly effective way to deal with this. You can also provide relief to your eye by resting it as much as possible. This is probably the best solution for a delicate and sensitive organ such as the eye. Try to sleep as much as possible. This will make the maximum difference in your condition. However, if this is not possible, then you can try wearing dark glasses and periodically keeping your eyes closed. Dark glasses become necessary because light will always cause the eye to experience some amount of strain at least.
You can also apply rose water to black eyes. This will cool down the entire area and will provide immense relief as well. Massage is also a very highly effective way to get rid of the swelling. For good results, you can use olive oil, which also has healing properties. You can grate a potato and squeeze out its juice. Apply the juice to the area around the eye. This will be of great help in getting rid of a black eye, especially in terms of removing discoloration. You can also apply witch hazel compresses to your blackened area. Witch hazel has exceptional healing properties which will heal the swelling as well as the discoloration. You would need to ensure that you employ these remedies for at least a couple of weeks before you can see positive results.

Black eye treatment Resting your eyes is the best remedy for them in this case. Sleep as much as you can for a good recovery. Cold packs made with ice wrapped in a cloth can be applied on the eyes to bring down swelling and help lighten the colour. Eat generous quantities of papaya and pineapple to help heal the black eye. Avoid painkillers, as they will slow down the healing process. Within 12 hours after you have got the black eye, it is advisable to use a warm clean washcloth as opposed to a cold pack. This will help cleanse the eye and the area and also help disperse the blood that is pooling in the area, thereby minimizing discoloration. Soak a couple of pads in witch hazel and place on the entire affected area. This draws out the pain as well as aids in healing the bruise. Grate a potato and apply it on the eye. This will help with the discoloration. Rubbing castor oil gently around the area of the wound will help bring down the swelling. Grate a cucumber and apply to the area to take away the strain and fatigue of using the eye. Arnica oil is also a very effective measure to soothe black eyes. However, if the oil is not available, you can opt for pills to be taken by mouth.
