Throat Tickling Remedies

I have a tickle in my throat and I can't stop coughing. What is it and what remedy can I use.

Many a times people tend to experience a tickling sensation in their throat which may be more pronounced at night. This throat tickle is known to be very annoying and even painful at times. Many a times the causes for the constant tickle in the throat are dryness and lack of moisture in the throat which results in an infection and a consequent itchy sensation.


The tickling in the throat may also result in the development of a dry racking cough in some cases. One of the sore throat remedies which is also used as a remedy for a tickle in the throat is to mix together some lemon juice and a teaspoon of honey in some warm water. This mixture should then be sipped on slowly until the itching sensation and the irritation goes away. One may consume this liquid as often as required. This is an effective remedy on how to stop tickle in the throat. Honey should not be used as one of the sore throat remedies for babies and for kids because in very young children the consumption of honey may result in a strong allergic reaction that can also be fatal in some extreme cases.

Those people who experience a constant tickle in the throat and chest which is also accompanies by a cough should gargle their throat with some warm salt water frequently during the day till the tickling sensation in the throat is minimized. Using salt is considered to be one of the effective sore throat remedies because salt is known to be an excellent natural antiseptic and bacteria killer and is hence effective in easing the itching sensation in ones throat. Tickling in the throat and chest may also be caused by the lack of fluids or dryness. When considering how to cure a tickle in your throat one should rehydrate themselves by drinking plenty of water and fluids. This is an effective remedy for tickle in throat. Throat tickle caused by an allergy can also be cured by crushing some vitamin C tablets into a fine powder and then adding this powder to some warm water. Thereafter one should add a little bit of salt as well as a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and mix all the ingredients well. This concoction should be used as a gargle during the day and one may gargle their throat with this mixture at least two to three times in a day. In fact apple cider vinegar is known to be one of the effective sore throat remedies. One may also mix some apple cider vinegar with some ground cayenne pepper and some warm water and gargle ones throat with this mixture several times in a day. Another one of the natural sore throat remedies that can be use to cure a tickle in the throat is to dilute some pure aloe vera extract in a glass of warm water and gargle the itchy throat with this liquid several times in the day.

Tickling in the throat and chest can also be addressed naturally by steeping a bag of chamomile tea in some warm water for around five minutes. This warm chamomile tea should then be consumed slowly several times in a day to get relief from the pain and itching sensation associated with a sore throat. Similarly one may also prepare some ginger tea by peeling a piece of ginger and then cutting it into thin slices. These slices of ginger should then be boiled in a cup of water till the water turns yellowish in color. The liquid should then be allowed to cool till it is at a drinkable temperature. During pregnancy there are plenty of medications and even natural remedies that may not be considered safe to be consumed for both the mother and the child. However there are certain natural sore throat remedies for pregnant women that can be used without any harm to the baby as well as the mother. The congestion that usually causes the sore throat can be treated naturally during pregnancy by placing a warm, wet washcloth over ones nose or by using a the hot steam in ones bathroom. One of the sore throat remedies while being pregnant is to gargle ones throat with some warm saltwater to sooth the throat an gain relief from the pain and the itching sensation. Similarly another one of the home remedies that can be safely used during pregnancy is to consume a mixture of warm water that has some honey and lemon added to it. Alternatively pregnant women suffering from a sore throat can also consume a spoonful of honey directly which will not only provide relief from the sore throat but will also help in addressing a cough that may be present. Pregnant women suffering from sore throat are also advised to drink plenty of orange juice as one of the natural sore throat remedies. The vitamin C present in the orange juice will help them recover from the sore throat faster.

Pregnant women are always advised to opt for natural treatments and remedies for sore throats so as to avoid the side effects that are often found with the commercially available medication for sore throats. However before consuming any sort of medication and even a natural treatment, pregnant women should consult their doctor and only then proceed with the medication of advised to do so. Many a times people tend to experience a tickling sensation in their throat because of the lack of humidity in the air especially during the winters. In such cases one may require to use a humidifier in the room one sleeps in so as to raise the moisture levels in the air and thereby gain relief from the tickling sensation in the throat. Another natural treatment for moisturizing the throat and to gain relief form a sore throat is to chew on some hard candy which will increase the production of saliva in the mouth thereby keeping the throat moist and free from the itching sensation. However one should remember not to eat menthol based candy as it is known to have a drying effect on the mouth and throat.

Home remedies for throat infection

This tickling sensation in your throat is due to infection which has dried your throat, thus leading to the prickle in your throat. Use the following natural remedies for throat infection and dry throat to sooth and cure your throat naturally and get rid of this sensation.
  • Add 1 tbsp of common salt in water which should be bearably hot. Gargle with it 3 to 4 times a day. This home cure provides instant relief to the throat.
  • Keep drinking a glass of lukewarm water every 45 minutes to an hour.
  • In a glass of warm water, add 2 tsp of honey and the juice of lemon and sip it till it finishes. If you get acid reflux then lessen the amount of lemon.
  • Crush some vitamin C tablets and add it to a glass of water and mix white vinegar and salt. Gargle with this solution 2 to 3 times a day. This alternative remedy is very beneficial in curing tickling in the throat, dry throat and sore throat.
  • You can avoid citrus fruit juices for sometime as they may irritate your throat further.
  • A constant tickle or cough might indicate food allergy. If the condition lasts for more then 15 days, please consult your doctor.
