I am suffering from piles since the last 1 year. Stool passing is very painful and the whole day I suffer from pain. Please give some treatment suggestions such as surgery or medicines.

In some cases of piles, when the condition is chronic or particularly painful and does not respond to other methods of treatment, surgery is indeed necessary. However, you have not mentioned what treatments you have tried in the last year, if any. Some lifestyle changes are usually enough to allow the body to heal itself and prevent the condition for occurring again. Before going for surgery, you should be sure that it is the only option available to you. You should also find out if there is any underlying problem that is causing piles.

One of the most common causes of piles is chronic constipation. To tackle this, you may need to modify your diet. In particular, you should ensure that you consume enough fiber. Your diet should contain plenty of fruits and vegetables, and less meat and high fat foods. You should also cut down on alcohol and caffeine, as they can interfere with the digestive system. If you suffer pain throughout the day, you should wash your anal area several times a day with cool water, and even apply a cold compress. In addition, there are various ointments and suppositories that can ease the pain when passing stools. You should ask your doctor about these options, and only if there is no improvement even after a month or two should you plan surgery.
