Suffering with stomach ache

Stomach ache may be on account of several factors. Air trapped in the intestinal tract, acidity, ulcers and stress are some common culprits. For women menstrual cramps and other gynaecological may cause pain in the lower abdomen. In certain cases however a stomach ache may be a sign of something serious. If you have any of the following speak to your doctor at the earliest:

  • Sudden severe stomach ache
  • A stomach ache lasts more than 24 hours
  • You feel nauseated or are vomiting.
  • You have a fever
  • You have rectal bleeding
  • You have bleeding other than your regular period.

If you have a stomach ache that involves heartburn, flatulence and nausea- the typical signs of a tummy upset- there are effective natural remedies for the problem that I am listing below:

  • Take a peppermint oil capsule. This helps ease heartburn and acidity.
  • Crab apples are also said to be effective in helping with stomach aches caused by eating unhealthy foods.
  • A teaspoon of ginger juice with honey or ginger tea will aid in soothing your stomach
  • A teaspoon of toasted asafetida taken with some yoghurt is good for gas and bloating.
  • Ease the pressure on your stomach by wearing loose fitting clothes
  • Take activated charcoal in tablet form or stir 2-3 tablespoons of activated charcoal powder into a glass of water and drink it up. This is good for abdominal gas.
  • Lie on your side rather than flat on your back.

In future try and avoid foods that trigger a tummy upset. For some people spicy or overly oily foods cause a problem. Some people react badly to an excessive intake of diary products. Try and identify which foods don't agree with you and either eliminate them from your diet completely or try and reduce their intake.
