Causes and Natural Treatment for Glaucoma
What exactly is your query regarding glaucoma, and probably more importantly, if you are suffering from glaucoma, what kind of glaucoma are you suffering from? There are many types and causes of glaucoma — although commonly thought to be a disease, the term actually refers to a group of diseases affecting the optic nerve. The most common scenario though is when the damage to the optic nerve is caused by a build up of pressure inside the eyeball.
Colloquially the term glaucoma is mostly used to describe this situation.
Whatever the type and cause of your glaucoma, you should get a proper diagnosis and treatment from your doctor. If left untreated, glaucoma can steadily progress to the point where vision is completely lost.
This is an unnecessary risk to take when there are treatments that have been proven to work.
There exist some dietary elements that can help, but drugs are usually necessary, and in some cases, surgery may also be needed. Foods that help include those that are rich in vitamin E and omega 3 fatty acids. The herbs ginkgo biloba and ginseng are also considered useful. Drug treatment usually includes drugs that reduce intraocular pressure — be sure to take the drugs prescribed to you as per your doctor's orders.
