Recovery from Fractures

It may take anywhere from three weeks to several months for a broken bone to heal. Fracture recovery time depends on the age of the patient, the type and severity of the fracture and the individual’s fitness levels. Calcium and other mineral supplements may be prescribed to facilitate the process of healing. Since the muscles associated with the fractured limb are not used during the period of recovery, they may feel weak and the ligaments not in use for the period give a sensation of being stiff. Appropriate physiotherapy to ‘loosen up’ those ligaments and tissues and strengthen the muscle is required to gradually regain complete use of the limb.
