Posted in Category : Common Ailments

When the abdominal cavity, the region between the chest and groin (also called the stomach region), has any kind of pain or discomfort, it is called abdominal distress. The condition may also refer to problems in the gastrointestinal tract or the other organs and tissues in the abdominal region. There are many diseases that affect the abdomen, resulting in symptoms like pain, nausea, vomiting, and irregular bowel movements like diarrhea or constipation. There are thus many different causes of abdominal distress. These include appendicitis and peritonitis (swelling of the abdominal lining), pancreatic inflammation, and injury to the abdominal wall muscles. Sometimes STDs are also responsible for abdominal distress. Other reasons are indigestion, heartburn, ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, and gallstones. Most kinds of ailments of the abdominal region are caused by prolonged faulty eating habits, stress, and over consumption of alcohol. A person invites abdominal problems if he eats too much and too fast, eats fatty foods or junk foods, or frequently eats at the wrong hours. There are abdominal infections like food poisoning that also lead to distress.

Treatments

It is always better to get a case of abdominal distress treated as soon as possible. It’s first necessary to find out the underlying cause of the distress. It is always the underlying problem that needs to be cured rather than the symptoms of the distress itself. In many cases, only a proper medical examination can determine the cause and cure both. However, there are a few guidelines that can prevent ailments causing abdominal distress in the first place. Some of these will often be effective at solving a majority of abdominal problems too.

When suffering from abdominal distress, it is best to consume more green leafy vegetables and fresh fruits rather than heavy, greasy, and spicy foods. Consuming plenty of water is also advisable, as it makes up for the water loss if you are suffering from diarrhea. Drinking enough water also eases bowel movements if you are suffering from constipation. Water also alleviates many other symptoms related to abdominal problems. You can also consume more oranges, as they are highly nutritional and at the same time help the digestive organs to function better. Flaxseed is also very effective at cleansing the stomach and rectifying any kind of abdominal or digestive problem. Consume some amount of flaxseed everyday to treat abdominal problems. Teas like green tea, peppermint, and chamomile tea are also very beneficial in treating abdominal problems. Banana also helps distress related to digestion. One can have two bananas a day to get relief from many abdominal problems. Most problems that cause abdominal distress are also because of a sedentary lifestyle. If you are physically active, you will not suffer from abdominal distress very easily. You must also be stress free, as panic attacks can also lead to abdominal distress.
