Home Remedies for an Upset Stomach

  • Add a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to a glass of water, mix it well, and make your toddler drink it. It helps in treating an upset stomach arisen due to indigestion.
  • Baking soda is a natural digestive and helps relieve stomach aches. Do not give your toddler large amounts of baking powder though, a quarter teaspoon or less, mixed with 8 ounces of warm water should be sufficient to ease a stomach upset in a child.
  • Make your child drink a cup of chamomile tea. Chamomile helps relax upper digestive tract muscles and thereby reduces cramps and tummy aches.
  • Give your child either apples or bananas to help ease their stomach ache. You can cut it, mash it, or steam it according to your toddler’s preference.
  • Ginger helps stimulate the production of digestive juices that counteract the acids and have a calming effect on your stomach. A teaspoon of ginger juice with honey is a better option for children as it will taste better. Ginger tea is a popular home remedy that helps calm your stomach, but it is not advisable to give ginger to children below the age of two.
  • Honey is a natural digestive that also contain antioxidants. Give them a warm glass of water with honey or make them eat a teaspoon of honey to alleviate their symptoms. Giving your child cinnamon in warm tea also aids in easing stomach aches. Honey should not be given to children under the age of one.
  • Give your child lemon mixed in water if they are constipated and have stomach aches. You can also give them a cup of tea with mint leaves and a slice of lemon to ease their pain. Mint helps your system get rid of harmful bacteria and calms your digestive tract.
  • Peppermint tea is refreshing and will help ease your toddlers’ tummy ache. Try to give it to them in the form of peppermint tea if they refuse to drink it substitute it with a peppermint candy.
  • Make sure your toddler drinks sufficient water. This will help their digestive system get rid of all the toxins and also helps avoid dehydration.
  • Yogurt contains some useful bacteria that helps keep stomach aches at bay. Eating it will help calm your child’s digestive system.

Treatment for stomach upsets in kids-

  1. Boil 1 tsf of cumin seeds in 4 cups of water and reduce it to 1 cup. Add 1/2 tsp sugar. Then bring this to normal room temperature and give 1 tsf to your child every hour for 3 hours.
  2. You can take a soft cotton towel and dip it in cold water. Then rinse it and put on the abdomen of the child for 15 minutes.
  3. If there are acute spasms and colic type pain where the kid demands to be carried. Give Chamomilla 30 [a homeopathic remedy] 2 pills every 3 hourly 3 times then wait for 3 days and watch.
  4. Another good homeopathic remedy if the child is very thirsty and cries very loudly you may give aconite 30 2 pills for 3 times at 3 hourly intervals.
