What are the home remedies for Jock Itch?

An excellent home remedy for this problem is tea tree oil. This works as good as or better than antifungal products in the market. It is best to expose affected areas to fresh air and sunlight as much as possible and keep them clean and dry.

Some self care tips you can follow at home:

  • Wash and thoroughly dry the affected area, especially after workouts. Clean the area using mild soap and warm water. Using oatmeal instead of soap might also be a good idea. Do not use Hydrogen peroxide as it can irritate and worsen the infection.
  • Use drying powders if you perspire excessively.
  • Wear loose fitting underwear or no underwear to prevent chafing.
  • Apply over-the-counter anti-fungal creams or powders recommended for jock itch, follow the instructions on the label. It usually takes about 2 weeks to show results. Too much treatment to the area can cause further irritation.
  • Avoid anti-bacterial soaps or deodorant soaps.

Several measures to prevent jock itch from occurring or re-occurring:

  • Avoid sharing clothing and towels or washcloths.
  • Allow groin to dry completely after bathing before covering with clothes.
  • Once a day, you may use antifungal powders or sprays to prevent infection.

If jock itch still persists and infection becomes severe, then see a skin specialist (dermatologist) who may prescribe an antibiotic.
