I was told I may have staph on my hip; I have 2 spots that are very red, inflammation, and pain. I have had it for over a month. Can staph cause dizziness also?

Staphylococcus or staph is a type of bacteria that affects the tissues of the body and causes infection which can range from mild to severe. These bacteria are normally present on the skin especially in the areas of the nose, mouth and genitals. If the skin is ruptured or bruised in any way, it is likely that these bacteria will enter the area and infect it. Staph infections are common in newborn babies, breastfeeding mothers, and individuals with chronic medical conditions such as cancer, diabetes, lung and vascular disease. Those with skin conditions such as eczema or burns and those with diminished immune systems are also susceptible to such infections.

Individuals can contract staph infections by touching surfaces that are contaminated. The bacteria also spread through direct contact with affected skin. Sharing of personal items such as towels, bed linen or clothes could cause the infection to spread from one person to another. Environments that are hot and humid also increase the risk of such infections. Many individuals who have the problem of excessive sweating also tend to be vulnerable to staph infections. In some cases, these infections can become serious. This usually occurs when the bacteria enters the bloodstream and infects vital parts of the system such as lungs, heart, bones and blood. Symptoms of a staph infection include redness, swelling, pain and pus formation. If you are experiencing dizziness, it is advisable to consult a doctor as it may be due to another underlying condition.

There are a few home remedies that are known to be effective in treating staph infections; it is however recommended that you consult your doctor before using any of them. Garlic is beneficial in reducing inflammation and also helps to drain the pus. Extract the juice of three cloves of garlic by crushing them and then apply it to the affected areas. Turmeric has anti-bacterial properties and can be applied to the inflamed spots. The gel of the aloe vera leaf is also known to be effective in alleviating skin infections. You can also apply a few drops of tea tree oil to the infected areas to reduce the redness and tenderness. Powdered cumin seeds coulds be mixed in water to form a thick paste and applied to the spots. This will help to keep the infection in check. Another helpful remedy is to take warm betel leaves, apply some castor oil over them and place over the affected areas.
