This ailment is sometimes accompanied by symptoms like body ache, chills, sore throat, nausea, weakness and dizziness. A low grade fever in adults that refers to a temperature of 99 to 1000F is not really a cause for concern and it can be resolved at home, using simple home remedies. Some of the common natural home remedies for fever include:

  • Applying an ice pack or a cold compress to the forehead
  • Avoiding any strenuous exercise or physical activity
  • Drinking a high amount of water along with other healthy liquids like skim milk, herbal tea, clear broth and fresh juice to avoid getting dehydrated
  • Following a diet that comprises of light and easy to digest foods.
  • Getting a lot of rest and adequate sleep during the day
  • Taking a bath with cool or lukewarm water around twice a day
  • Wearing cool, light, loose and comfortable clothing
You could also take some over the counter medication to alleviate a low grade fever. However, in case your body temperature goes up to 102 degrees F, it is regarded as high fever and it may be best for you to consult a doctor. A fever of more than 103 degrees F should be treated as a medical emergency.

How can I bring down mild fever?

One of the ways to reduce a mild fever is to provide the person with plenty of fluids especially plain drinking water as this helps in cooling the body down and also prevents dehydration. Dehydration tends to occur during a mild fever as well on account of the fluid loss caused by sweating. Another way of bringing down fever is to ensure that the person does not indulge in any strenuous physical activity and instead is quite and relaxed while suffering from a fever. Another natural method of bringing down fever is to dress the individual in light cotton clothing so that the body heat can escape. Alternatively if the person is feeling cold or shivering then they should be covered with a blanket but this blanket should be removed immediately once the chill or the shivering stops. Alcohol rubs or cold baths although followed by many are not recommended for bringing down a mild fever naturally as although they temporarily cool the skin, the chances of the shivering increasing post a cold bath are quite high. While looking at natural remedies for bringing down fever, you should keep in mind that the aim would be to reduce the fever and not necessarily to get rid of it initially.
