My son has a fever and he usually gets seizures if his fever is too high. Is there any type of home remedies that I can make that will take his fever away or even lessen it?

Seizures that are associated with fever are known as febrile seizures, and while they are somewhat common in children between the ages of 1 and 6 years, they can sometimes indicate a serious condition such as meningitis or encephalitis. In addition, febrile seizures can also cause brain injury if they last long or recur frequently. This is not to scare you — in most cases, febrile seizures are quite harmless — but it is good to be sure. Therefore, if you have not already discussed your son's seizures with your doctor, you should do so as soon as possible, particularly if this happens often and his seizures last longer than 15 minutes.

It is thought that febrile seizures occur not simply in response to a fever, but when the body temperature rises too quickly. It might therefore be useful to try to control you son's temperature when he has a fever. The best way to control temperature is to use a wet cloth. Do not use ice, as this will cause the blood vessels to constrict, due to which heat loss will be reduced. Simply dip a soft, clean cloth in water, squeeze it a bit, and place it on your son's forehead.
