Urine infection natural treatment

I have had a urinary infection of some sort for 3 months. I have taken a full course of cipro and then amoxil and I still have excess discharge. What do you think the problem is?

Natural Remedies for Urine infection

The unfortunate part of most UTI is its recurrent behavior. Although antibiotics greatly restrict the further growth of the harmful bacteria, the medications do not guarantee further recurrence. Most bacteria lie dormant after antibiotic medication and resurface once the medication has ended. This happens because during an antibiotic course, bacteria both harmful and good are eradicated in the process. The harmful bacteria that cause the infection are naturally stronger and do not die out easily, whereas the good bacteria that sustains the eco-system of the urogenital region is wiped out. Hence a perfect balance is necessary for good health.

In addition to anti-biotic treatments, you need pro-biotic foods to help your body regain its strength and completely wipe out the infection. Probiotics as the name suggests means progress of good bacteria. These bacteria can be found in fresh produce namely fruits vegetables and healthy fresh yoghurt. Good hygiene is a key in preventing recurrence as well reducing the bacteria before it gets out of hand. Apart from keeping the region clean, be hydrated all day long and cut down all forms of sugar since the harmful bacteria thrives in sugar. The best way to fight off an UTI is to starve on sugar and increase water consumption. Drink more than eight to 10 glasses of water to flush out the toxins.

You might have a strain of UTI (Urinary tract infection) which is resistant to the antibiotics you have tried. If there are any signs that the infection has spread to your kidneys, then please treat it as an emergency and try and find an antibiotic course that will help in consultation with your primary health care provider.

These signs would be:

  • Pain or pressure in the abdomen, side, or lower back
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Nausea

If the problem is not that severe, there are several natural remedies that will help you. Cranberries are one of the best known and most effective remedies for urinary infections. You can take them in juice form or get cranberry extract tablets. If you are taking juice, please remember to take it in its most natural form, with no added sugar.

Certain homeopathic remedies such as Cantharis and Staphysagria can help with the burning and pain associated with the infection. Another herb called Uva Ursi is often prescribed for this problem, but should be used with care if you are pregnant or nursing.

Try and drink as much water as you can or a minimum of 8 glasses a day, because this will help flush out the toxins. Wish you a speedy recovery.
