Causes and home remedies for basilar migraine

Basilar Migraine is also known as basilar artery migraine, basilar-type migraine, Vertebrobasilar Migraine, Bickerstaff's Syndrome and Vertebrobasilar Syndrome. It is a migraine of the basilar artery that is present in the back of your head.

This kind of migraine is mainly affecting young women and girls. It is defined as a migraine associated with aura and originated from brainstem or both occipital lobes. The basic causes of this migraine are inheritance or heredity and reduced blood circulation. Basilar migraine show symptoms of severe and acute occipital headache associated with vomiting and nausea.

You can treat basilar migraines by the following home remedies:

  • Eat plenty of high protein foods such as almond, almond milk, fennel, cherries, garlic and fresh pineapple.
  • Exclude foods such as meat, canned fish, red plums, beer, meat, avocados, dairy products, egg plant and hard cheese that contain high amount of amino acids.
  • Limit your intake of salt and other acid forming foods.
  • Eat small and nutritious meal.
  • Avoid smoking and drinking as these can worsen migraine.
  • Stay away from loud noise, high altitude and strong odors.
  • Herbs like eucalyptus, lavender, peppermint, chamomile, sandalwood, cordyceps, cayenne, fumitory, valerian, rosemary, fever few and willow bark are essential for curing any kind of migraine.
  • Tri cyclic antidepressants such as amitriptylene and nortriptylene can also prove to be beneficial.
